Gaga topped fellow pop icon Britney Spears in August of 2010 to become the most-followed person on Twitter. Currently, Spears has 13.5 million Twitter followers -- roughly 6.5 million less than Gaga.

While Spears occasionally posts personal tweets, her account is largely maintained by her management team. Gaga has claimed to personally maintain her Twitter account and regularly uses it to interact with fans, share original pictures and make announcements. After passing Spears, Gaga then dubbed herself the "Queen of Twitter," and has retained the title ever since.
The top 5 most-followed people on Twitter are all musicians. Lady Gaga (20 million followers), Justin Bieber ( 18 million followers), Katy Perry (15.7 million followers), Shakira (14.5 million followers) and Rihanna (14.4 million followers) top the Twitter charts.

While Bieber tweets much more often than Gaga does, statistics from twittercounter.com suggest Gaga's Twitter crown isn't in any immediate danger of being overtaken by Bieber. Gaga's daily Twitter growth rate is consistently higher than Bieber's -- keeping her lead safe.
In addition to her 20 million Twitter followers, Lady Gaga has 48.8 million fans on Facebook and is in approximately 830,000 circles on Google+.
Despite numerous reports to the contrary that have surfaced of late, some random entrepreneur known only as Speedy is still seeing Lady GaGa nude.

There were 135 ballots submitted by U.S. news organizations that make up the AP's membership. Editors and broadcasters were asked to cast their ballots for who had the most influence on entertainment and culture in 2011.
Lady Gaga narrowly edged out the late Apple founder Steve Jobs by three votes. Her year was dominated by the release of her second studio album, "Born This Way."
Previous winners of the AP Entertainer of the Year include Betty White, Taylor Swift, Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert.
Lady Gaga has been booked to sing in New York's Times Square on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest" special, ABC said Thursday.
"Lady Gaga is one of the most exciting and relevant artists of our time, and we're thrilled to have her join 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' this year in Times Square," Seacrest said in a statement. "I'm especially honored to share the stage with the legendary Dick Clark, who is celebrating his 40th year hosting the show, which he created and transformed into one of the most iconic American television programs. We're really thrilled to see how this year's lineup lights up the stage to make it the most memorable show yet."
"It hardly seems possible that we began telecasting 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' 40 years ago," Clark added. "Armed with just a couple of cameras and a skeleton crew, my wife and I stood atop a Times Square building and watched the thousands of happy celebrants in Times Square. The army of talent we had join us over the years has truly been outstanding, and this year we top it off with an appearance by Lady Gaga. 'New Year's Rockin' Eve 2012' promises to be one of the most exciting ever, and I'm proud to be part of the team."
Lady Gaga is to perform live in front of a crowd of an estimated 1 million people in Times Square just before the ball drops to mark the start of 2012.In honor of the 40th anniversary of Clark's traditional New Year's Eve celebration, the festivities will begin at 8 p.m. ET with a 2-hour special entitled "New Year's Rockin' Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party," which will be taped in Times Square and Los Angeles.
"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012" is to begin at 10 p.m. ET. Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas is to return as host of the Los Angeles portions of the specials, ABC said.
Pop Singer Lady Gaga has threatened to sue the owners of an ice cream parlour in London for producing a flavour made from human breast milk, titled Baby Gaga.
Attorneys representing the singer have sent a legal letter to bosses at Icecreamists in the U.K. capital's Covent Garden warning them to change the name of the bizarre concoction.
In the document, Gaga's lawyers accuse store owner Matt O'Connor of riding on the pop star's "coattails" to promote a product which is "deliberately provocative and, to many people, nausea-inducing." The letter adds, "The references you are making to Lady Gaga are thus clearly deliberate and intended to take advantage of her reputation and good will... Associating the Lady Gaga mark with a food product which may be unsafe for human consumption (owing to the risk of it carrying such viruses as hepatitis) is also highly detrimental." However, O'Connor insists he has been unfairly targeted, calling the legal threat "preposterous and outrageous".
He tells Britain's Evening Standard, "We think this is very unnecessary, the whole thing will be over by next week, but we are prepared to fight this in court... This is a David versus Goliath battle I'm convinced we will eventually win. The world's biggest superstar has taken umbrage with the world's smallest ice-cream parlour. For Lady Gaga to accuse us of stealing her image is laughable when you consider how much she has borrowed from popular culture to create her look and music. She also seems to have forgotten that since the dawn of time the word gaga has been one of the first discernible phrases to come from a baby's mouth. This is why we chose the name."
"As for her assertion that our product is distasteful, perhaps she should reflect on her blood-spurting performance at the Mtv Video Music Awards, or the fact she wears clothes fabricated from the flesh of dead animals. The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on Tuesday on whether to begin debate on the annual Defense Department authorization bill, which includes language aimed at ending the Clinton-era "don't' ask, don't tell" policy.
The vote is expected to be close. The U.S. House of Representatives has already voted to repeal it. In the black and white video, which is over 7 minutes long, Gaga sits in front of an American flag wearing a demure dark tie, white blouse and dark blazer. "I am here to be a voice for my generation," Gaga, 24, said in the YouTube video. "Not the voice of the generation of the senators who are voting, but for the youth of this country -- the generation affected by this law and whose children will be affected."
Calling the law unconstitutional, she urged her fans to call senators in their district.
She also asked followers on Twitter to make their own videos supporting equal rights

The Grammy-winning performance artist has both flaunted, and been outspoken on, the topic of sexuality and has openly courted gays and lesbians at her concerts.
Last weekend, she walked the red carpet at the MTV Music Video Awards with four gay veterans as her dates.
Gaga also posted the video on her personal website, her Facebook Fan Page and her Twitter account.
Gaga whose hits include "Bad Romance" and "Alejandro", has over 18 million fans on Facebook and more than 6 million followers on Twitter.
She burst onto the music scene two years ago, is no stranger to controversy. On Sunday MTV awards show and in live shows she has set her piano on fire and smeared herself with fake blood.
