American pop star Katy Perry spent Christmas 11,265km apart from her British comedian husband Russell Brand reinforcing rumours that the couple's marriage is on the rocks.

British tabloids on Wednesday published pictures of the 27-year-old I Kissed A Girl Grammy Award-nominated singer frolicking on the beach and splashing in the sea in a bikini with several friends in Hawaii - without her wedding ring and with Brand nowhere in sight.

"They haven't split up just yet, but things are not good," the source told the magazine. "The fighting is getting worse." "Katy doesn't think Russell respects her parents' Christian beliefs or her friends," another source said.Perry's parents are Christian pastors. The couple have repeatedly denied they are on the verge of splitting up a year after their Hindu nuptials took place in India in October 2010.
